County Shelves Plans to Renovate Hovland Dock After Community Feedback

Jan 08, 2018 08:42AM ● By Editor
Cook County recently conducted an on-line survey of community residents which asked for feedback on various aspects of the proposed renovation of the Hovland Dock for public safety purposes and as a community attraction for tourism.  63% of respondents did not approve of proposals to improve the Hovland Dock.

100 people responded and the conclusion by Cook County officials was there was not enough positive community feedback to proceed with the project.  In an email to survey participants, Lisa Kerr, Land  Commissioner/Parks & Trails Director, Cook County wrote, "The support for the project is still mixed and so without majority community support the County will not be pursuing the project at this time."

In reviewing the survey of 100 community members, 47% lived in Hovland and 53% lived elsewhere.  Asked if they supported efforts to improve the dock for public safety, 63% of respondents said "No".  There was even less support to proposals to use the Hovland Town Hall as the site for access to the Hovland Dock or the installation of parking spots and picnic tables.
