District 6 - Two Harbors Area - Minnesota Department of Natural Resources - December 26, 2017

CO Darin Fagerman (Grand Marais) checked trapping, angling, and snowmobile activity.  The North Shore State Trail has been groomed in the Grand Marais area and the local snowmobile club has been working on brushing and trail clearing.

CO Mary Manning (Grand Marais East) patrolled lakes and trails checking anglers and snowmobile operators.  The officer has been working with the local school district to implement DNR safety training programs into the school curriculum to provide better access to more youth in the community.  The officer also followed up on cases from the bear and deer seasons.

CO Anthony Bermel (Babbitt/Ely) continued to work on a pre-employment background investigation.  A report of hunter harassment was investigated and a litter case was finished up with enforcement action taken.  Time was spent checking ice anglers and patrolling from snowmobile in the Isabella area.  Fishing was slow and snowmobile trails need more snow.

CO David Schottenbauer (Silver Bay) worked on background investigation, checking anglers, and snowmobile activity.

CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Tofte) spent the week checking anglers and snowmobilers in the area. Enforcement action was taken for possession and transportation of firearms.

CO Don Murray (Two Harbors) checked small game trapping activity and checked area lakes for fishing activity.  Ice conditions continue to improve and ice houses are now being placed on lakes.  A complaint of an illegally dumped deer carcass on private property is being investigated and questions on snowmobile registration laws were answered.

CO Sean Williams (Ely 1) reports ice consistency continued to improve on local lakes after a long run of cold weather and minimal snow. Snowmobile trails are barely passable and most riders are still avoiding them, but more tracks and sleds were seen over the week. Violations included operating a snowmobile on a roadway.
