Wrenshall School District offers superintendent position to ISD 166 principal

WTIP has learned that Principal Adam Nelson has been offered a superintendent position at the Wrenshall School District, District 100.
Acting superintendent Kim Belcastro said the ISD 100 School Board voted to hire Nelson at its school board meeting last night.
Nelson’s departure from School District 166 is dependent on the local school board agreeing to terminate his contract.
Reached by phone, Superintendent Dr. Bill Crandall said he has yet to receive a written notification from Principal Nelson. Crandall said when the school district receives that letter a special meeting will likely be scheduled as the next regular school board meeting is not until December 14.
Crandall said the purpose of the special meeting would be for the school board to consider releasing Nelson from his contract as principal of ISD 166 and to address the school’s administrative structure moving forward.

Asked if Nelson’s resignation could lead to a promotion to principal for Assistant Principal Bill DeWitt, Crandall said that will have to be discussed by the school board, but acknowledged such an option could be “on the table.”
If released from his contract at ISD 166, Belcastro said the Wrenshall School District would like Nelson to start on Jan. 2, 2018.
Nelson, formerly a social studies teacher at Red Wing High School, was hired to be the ISD 166 principal in June 2013.
