October 10 Board of Commissioners Meeting Highlights

October 12, 2017 – Following are highlights and key priorities covered at the Tuesday, Oct 10 Board of Commissioners Meeting:

Loan for Trail Grooming Equipment

Auditor Treasurer Braidy Powers recommended the Board of Commissioners authorize an equipment loan of $4,500 to the Banadad Trail Association to used towards the purchase of snowmobile trail grooming equipment for a period of seven years at a rate of 1.5%.

Tax Forfeit Land Sale to Grand Portage
The Board of Commissioners approved the sale of 1/6th share of tax forfeited parcel 58-311-2105 to Grand Portage Reservation for the nominal fee of $1 to make whole Grand Portage Reservation’s ownership of the otherwise undevelopable parcel near the end of Upper Road in Grand Portage.

Bonding & Capital Projects Review
County Administrator Jeff Cadwell reviewed material related to bonding for road improvements and capital improvement projects including a proposed list of projects, a timeframe for discussion and review and a proposed timeframe and process in the bond issuance process. The project list will be discussed at the Oct.17, 2017 Committee of the Whole.

Health Care Renewal 
County Administrator Jeff Cadwell reviewed the 2018 renewal materials for the County Health Plan and the County Voluntary Dental Plan. Cadwell recommended that Board accept the proposed health care renewal of the current health plan provided by Blue Cross through the Northeast Service Cooperative with a premium increase of 5.1% over the 2017 rate. The Board approved the renewal of the health plan and voluntary dental plan as recommended.

Personnel Changes
The Board approved the hiring of Jeanne Monson as Social Worker I in the Public Health & Human Services Department. The Board also approved the internal posting of the Financial Assistance Supervisor position within the Department, previously held by PHHS Director Alison McIntyre.
