North Shore Health renovation continues, sneak peek for the public to visit July 28

Construction at North Shore Health continues to move forward, paving the way for advanced care and treatment for Cook County residents and visitors alike. Healthcare has changed dramatically since the facility’s opening in 1958 and although multiple sections have been improved over the years, this large-scale renovation is modernizing the entire facility.
“The transformation of our facility is amazing. It’s been fun to watch. Every day we come to work excited to see the progress,” said Kimber Wraalstad, CEO at North Shore Health. “The construction team has been incredible and the phased approach has allowed us to continue to provide exceptional care during the process.”
Construction progress over the past year has been excellent. Renovations on the new 100 and 400 Care Center halls were completed in August 2016. Both halls have been open and occupied for many months, much to the delight of residents and staff alike. Residents are enjoying the updated space, as well as increased privacy in living spaces, including private bathrooms.
Most recently, the new 200 Hall has been completed, including a new household kitchen, expanded dining room, and a new living room. Residents moved into the new room on the 200 Hall and will be using the new kitchen and dining room space. With these moves completed, the renovation is beginning on the 300 Hall.
All hospital in-patient rooms are complete and North Shore Health expects to begin using these rooms for patient care later this year.
Other in-progress renovations on-track to be completed this summer include: expanded/unified nursing station, the emergency department and ambulance drive through, and activation of the new CT equipment in radiology. Renovations to the remainder of the Care Center, completely redesigned front entry and new Physical Therapy Department are on-track to be completed by the end of the year.
North Shore Health will be hosting a “Sneak Peek” open house from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017, to share the incredible construction progress and Care Center transformation. Staff will give tours of the renovated hospital, patient rooms, emergency department, and the first completed Care Center household. Additional event details will be shared online at http:// northshorehealthgm.org. When the full renovation is completed, North Shore Health will invite the community to a rededication ceremony in May 2018.
